The greylag goose or graylag goose (Anser anser) is a species of large goose in the waterfowl family Anatidae and the type species of the genus Anser. It has mottled and barred grey and white plumage and an orange beak and pink legs. Greylag geese travel to their northerly breeding grounds in spring, nesting on moorlands, in marshes, around lakes and on coastal islands. They normally mate for life and nest on the ground among vegetation.
I want comment on the second photograph. While it seems like an arbitrary portrait of a family of geese, it depicts loyalty and love to the family till physical exhaustion. To the left we see the female sleeping with the newborn chicks. To the right we see the male. He is not walking. He is resting his right foot and change back to the left when it is tired. He is standing still, watching, for hours to protect his newborn from predators. When I took this particular photograph, he was in the second hour of his watch. He continued to do so until around sunset.
